The memory of heritage in an evolving and changing context and future challenges

On Zoom application

Introduction

Heritage Memory has been the subject of scientific research, reflection, and interpretation for years. In its broad sense, it is a product that provides societies with a collection of resources inherited from the past, which have been recreated in the present to make them available for the benefit of future generations. Therefore, heritage memory is a link to identity and a source of inspiration for creativity and innovation, but it is also a cause of exclusion or even hostage to political conflicts and ideological debates.

Perhaps the most dangerous thing is that this memory has not yet received due attention, especially with the popularity of technology, so the gap in our relationship with our heritage has widened.

Today, sources of knowledge may be text, databases, still images, animations, sound, graphics, programs, web pages, and human expressions, whether cultural, scientific, artistic, or administrative, or may include technical information. Legal, medical, or other information, is increasingly digitally generated or may be converted into a digital form of existing analog resources.  These resources are of enduring value and importance and constitute a heritage that must be protected and preserved for present and future generations. But even this satisfied digital memory is exposed to many threats, making it ephemeral and requiring careful maintenance and management.

As a result, in the face of increasing globalization, the question of the memory of heritage is being seriously raised today as a force that ensures the preservation of cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.  Therefore, good management of the development potential of heritage memory requires an approach at emphasizes the principle of sustainability and determines the balance between its usefulness in media, economic, and social terms and its preservation as a wealth threatened by several factors. For this reason, in the midst of the current stakes, we are required to revise our representations of the memory of heritage. And update it, to get acquainted, preserve the meaning, and work for the future.
