AI and Knowledge in the Balance: the 2026 Cairo International Book Fair

The Arab Institution of Knowledge Management (AIKM) continues its mission to knowledge content in the region. We are proud to announce our upcoming seminar: “Artificial Intelligence and Knowledge in the Balance” at the 2026 Cairo International Book Fair.

: Redefining Knowledge Authority [From Algorithmic Tool to Knowledge Governance]

AI is no longer just an advanced technical tool; it has become an active player in the equation of knowledge itself. We are not only living in an era of information acceleration but an era of redefining who owns, produces, and interprets knowledge.

Traditional knowledge has always been the result of a slow human accumulation, linked to context and ethical responsibility. In contrast, AI operates on a logic of hyper-velocity and instant conclusions that appear “objective” but are merely reflections of the datasets upon which the system was predicated.

The Dilemma of Comprehension vs. Statistical Patterning

One of the seminar’s core discussions addressed the critical interpretation made by AI between knowledge as “understanding” and knowledge as a “statistical pattern.” The danger lies not just in errors, but in over-reliance. When AI becomes the ultimate reference, the authority of knowledge shifts from the critical mind to the algorithm. This shift risks weakening the human capacity for skepticism, verification, and reconstruction.

While AI has democratized access to information, this “knowledge democracy” remains incomplete and unreliable without the ability to distinguish between briefing and understanding, or between citation and genuine creativity.
